Businessmen on the Silver Screen

Hollywood loves to hate businessmen. They are portrayed as evil and heartless individuals, whose focus begins and ends with money. They are shown to be greedy for material wealth, while disregarding the needs of the common man. Check out this interesting perspective by Ken Shepherd here.

Does Bollywood follow the same trend? Remember Shakaal in Shaan and Mogambo in Mr. India? The men who are concerned with personal pleasure over all else? What about the rival fathers of the lovers in Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak? They could have been in any profession but they play businessmen in the movie.

What is it that makes businessmen easy to hate? We want to know what you think. Do post your comments... the more, the merrier!

Welcome to the world of EoT!

The Entrepreneurs of Tomorrow Programme was launched in 2007 by Dhriiti - The Courage Within. The main objective of the programme was to work with youth attached to colleges and universities, motivating them to start their own enterprises and giving them training in the skills required to do so. Since piloting with 2 colleges in Delhi University, EoT has trained over 200 participants in its entrepreneurship skill development programme.

As part of this training, participants are exposed to enterprise visits, entrepreneurship film festivals, guest lectures by eminent industry experts and a unique pedagogy of interactive games and exercises. All participants are also encouraged to initiate live projects where they take a passion and turn it into an enterprise for the duration of the course. These live project ideas range from manufacturing herbal tea masala and handmade jewellery to an online publishing house, a tourist resort, psychological counselling and tarot card reading. Some of these live projects have also been converted into enterprises like the tourist resort and the online publishing house.

This EoT blog aims at creating a space for healthy debate on entrepreneurs, current happening in the world of entrepreneurship, views and counter-views. We will be updating it every two weeks and we hope that you will enjoy and participate in the ongoing discussions. Cheers!
